German Icewine - Kessler-Zink Pinot Noir Eiswein 2010
A superior German icewine made from Pinot Noir with intense aromas of cherries, strawberries, honey, caramel and ginger flower. A thick palate mixes with a well-balanced and fascinating taste. Due to the cold weather in Germany, red grapes such as Pinot Noir are difficult to grow, resulting in small amounts of pink icewine being made and thus every pink icewine is a truly precious wine. Served as an excellent stand-alone dessert after dinner and also perfectly pairs with other desserts. Recommended serving temperature: 6-8°C.
Classification:
Eiswein, Prädikatswein
Icewine (German: Eiswein) is a type of dessert wine produced from grapes which are hand-picked in -7°C environment. The water in the grapes freezes while the sugars do not, resulting in a smaller amount of more concentrated and very sweet wine. Icewine production is risky (the frost may not come at all before the grapes rot or are otherwise lost) and requires the availability of a large enough labour force to pick the whole crop within a few hours. This results in relatively small amounts of icewine being made worldwide, making icewines generally quite expensive.
